The Downing University Center at Western Kentucky University, opened in 1970, has undergone numerous additions/renovations over its years in service. Kerr-Greulich Engineers, Inc. was elated to add to a long history of working with the university on the complete renovation of the existing 240,000 square foot facility. The state-of-the-art facility now serves the WKU campus through a 24-hour study area, larger and enhanced meeting rooms, a new recreation area on the first floor, new offices for staff, Student Government Association, and various other student organizations. The facility also provides upgraded food service areas including a cafeteria-style space with a food court, as well as, a sit-down type restaurant. The building just received LEED Silver certification. President at WKU, Dr. Gary Ransdell said, “The renovation provides an innovative, sustainable space that benefits the entire WKU community”.
