Staff Plumbing Designer Job Posting

SUMMARY

The Staff Plumbing Designer leads design/drafting production for projects and is responsible for graphic production and arrangement of construction plans. The Staff Designer is a member of a Project Team and may be the lead designer directing the work of Entry Designers and working closely with Engineers, other designers, Project Managers, and clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Independent ability to prepare the framework of drawing sets with AutoCad and Revit based on KGEI design guidelines and sheet set up templates.
  • Understands building construction means and methods enough to identify when a design strategy will not work and able to propose alternate options.
  • Able to effectively communicate and coordinate with civil, architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical with project manager assistance.
  • Responsible for producing complete set of construction documents with minimal guidance from a Senior Designer or Project Engineer.
  • Analyze and evaluate building codes to implement compliant design strategies. Includes ability to effectively communicate and obtain favorable interpretations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to size and design domestic water, sanitary, storm, gas, and fire protection systems
  • Demonstrate the ability to size and design piping and ductwork for HVAC systems.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform calculations for sizing equipment. Calculations will be reviewed with a Senior Designer or Project Engineer for final equipment decisions.
  • Demonstrate ability to research code and communicate with code officials to obtain favorable interpretations.
  • Knowledgeable of current industry standards such as ASPE, ASHRAE and NFPA guidelines.
  • Familiar with ASME 31B and SMACNA Duct Construction Standards.
  • Ability to evaluate cost differences between design options and make design decisions that minimize construction cost.
  • Learns to survey existing building conditions with guidance from Senior Designer.
  • Provides input for improvements in design and drafting techniques.
  • Develops a working knowledge of special design circumstances in commercial, educational and healthcare facilities.

  • Utilize knowledge and experience to assist in leading and influencing designers and team members.
  • Effectively delegates to drafters by providing hand written designs for input on AutoCad or Revit drawings files and verbal direction.
  • Trains designers and engineers by providing constructive feedback on design work by entry level designers and engineers.
  • Provides constructive feedback to entry level designers on a daily basis and for annual evaluations.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

One year certificate from college or technical school and 3-10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Achieved or preparing for certification in ASHRAE design and/or ASPE certified plumbing design technician. Advanced AutoCAD skills.

  • LEED/other professional certifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint or the like.
  • BIM/REVIT.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Advanced AutoCAD skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint or the like
