“Learning and exploration for the community”
Following Louisville Free Public Library’s 2008 master plan, officials proposed three new regional libraries to serve about 170,000 residents within a five-mile radius. The three new libraries are strategically positioned to ensure 90% of Louisville residents live close to a full-service library. The Northeast Regional Library was the final library to be constructed. The protected 13-acre formal lawn is located directly behind KGEI’s office adding extra excitement as we were able to watch the design and construction process on a daily basis. The site features a park-like setting with walking paths, outdoor seating areas, and even trees with swings. The interior features a children’s area with amphitheater tiers and a slide, a material collection area, private reading spaces, public meeting rooms, and maker spaces. The library truly provides patrons with technology and tools for learning and exploration. “Green” technologies and the eco-friendly design qualified led to the award of LEED Gold certification.
