SUMMARY

The Staff Mechanical Designer leads design/drafting production for projects and is responsible for graphic production and arrangement of construction plans. The Staff Designer is a member of a Project Team and may be the lead designer directing the work of Entry Designers and working closely with Engineers, other designers, Project Managers and clients.

REPORTS TO:  Project Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Requirements

  • Independent ability to prepare the framework of drawing sets with AutoCad and Revit based on KGEI design guidelines and sheet set up templates.
  • Understands building construction means and methods enough to identify when a design strategy will not work and able to propose alternate options.
  • Able to effectively communicate and coordinate with civil, architectural, structural, electrical and mechanical with project manager assistance.
  • Responsible for producing complete set of construction documents with minimal guidance from a Senior Designer or Project Engineer.
  • Analyze and evaluate building codes to implement compliant design strategies. Includes ability to effectively communicate and obtain favorable interpretations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to size and design domestic water, sanitary, storm, gas and fire protection systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to size and design piping and ductwork for HVAC systems.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform calculations for sizing equipment. Calculations will be reviewed with a Senior Designer or Project Engineer for final equipment decisions.
  • Demonstrate ability to research code and communicate with code officials to obtain favorable interpretations.
  • Knowledgeable of current industry standards such as ASPE, ASHRAE and NFPA guidelines.
  • Familiar with ASME 31B and SMACNA Duct Construction Standards.
  • Ability to evaluate cost differences between design options and make design decisions that minimize construction cost.
  • Learns to survey existing building conditions with guidance from Senior Designer.
  • Provides input for improvements in design and drafting techniques.
  • Develops a working knowledge of special design circumstances in commercial, educational and healthcare facilities.

Leadership

 Requirements/Qualifications

  • Graduate of technical college and 3 to 10 years of experience.
  • Achieved or preparing for certification in ASHRAE design and/or ASPE certified plumbing design technician.
  • In the process of learning excellent time management skills.

  • Ability to work in a team environment and use participatory decision-making skills.
  • Advanced AutoCAD skills.
  • LEED/other professional certifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint or the like.

Working/Physical Environment

The position does not require a daily physical effort. The position requires use of computers, vehicles, design and general office equipment. Visits to construction sites are needed occasionally. Some construction sites will require use of personal protective equipment including safety shoes, hard hat, safety glasses, etc. Ability to respond to safety alerts and voice commands is required. The position requires considerable concentration and creativity. It is subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and workload.

SUMMARY

The Staff Electrical Engineer works as a part of a project team on a variety of projects. These may include repeat quick turnaround projects to major new project designs. This engineer shall be familiar with electrical engineering and design of commercial and industrial buildings including power distribution, lighting, and low voltage systems.

REPORTS TO:   Chief Electrical Engineer, Project Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Requirements

  • Perform analytical system design and calculations and develops understanding of assembly of calculations.
  • Provide technical specifications.
  • Develop knowledge related to codes and working with regulatory agencies.
  • Gain experience and exposure to multiple areas of electrical engineering.
  • Learn process of document assembly.
  • Begin process of becoming an expert in area of interest in electrical design.
  • Develop skills in assessing structural, architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical design to avoid conflicts in design process.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers and designers in understanding workflow, design process, budgets and deadlines.
  • Work closely with designers to create engineering documents for electrical design.

  • B.S. degree from accredited school-EIT or EIT in process.
  • Four (4) + year’s experience in commercial electrical design.
  • Familiar with coordination studies, arc flash studies, and fault current analysis.
  • Ability to utilize SKM software.
  • CAD/Software competence.
  • REVIT/Software competence.
  • LEED/other professional certifications.

Experienced Plumbing Engineer/Designer to support growing business. In this role, you will develop design concepts and detailed design documents for a wide range of healthcare projects. Ideal candidates will have at least 10 years’ experience designing complex plumbing systems (preferably with healthcare projects) and a desire to work in a fast paced team environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Requirements

  • Responsible for plumbing system design in a lead designer/engineer role on projects.
  • Development of system concepts, calculations, system sizing and selection, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Client and project communications and coordination.
  • Services during construction.
  • Responsible for developing and adhering to design budgets.
  • Coordinate all disciplines.
  • Responsible to assemble a set of plumbing construction documents from start to finish with no supervision.
  • Able to design domestic water, sanitary, storm, gas, and fire protection systems for commercial, educational and healthcare facilities.
  • Knowledge and ability to research and interpret building codes.
  • Knowledge of construction cost and impact of cost on overall budget.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Must have at least 10 years of applicable experience in the consulting engineering field including developing plans and specifications.
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of plumbing system design, particularly for healthcare facilities.
  • Ability to accurately estimate and forecast design effort and coordinate with project team across disciplines.
  • An engineering degree and/or related technical certification (e.g. CIPE, CPD) and equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in the operation of computer systems including Outlook, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD MEP and Revit preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with clients and staff.
