Western Kentucky University – Gatton Academy

The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science is the Commonwealth’s first high school for students pursing advanced careers. Their last two years of high school are spent living on WKU’s campus working towards not only finishing high school, but earning college 60 credit hours. The project consists of a partial renovation of the existing four-story building while designing three new wings of approximately 18,000 square feet attached to the front façade of the building. The facility is complete with new dormitories, administrative offices, restrooms, gifted study areas, lounge and multi-purpose space.
Highlights of KGEI’s design include:
- Low flow plumbing fixtures.
- Energy efficient LED lighting; lighting also includes occupancy sensor control.
- Building automation system.
- New mechanical systems connected to a central direct cooling and heating system.
